Just as we exercise to keep the body fit and healthy. Meditation is the exercise of mind. Mind controls the body and allows the activities in daily life. If you learn to control your activities and overcome your shortcomings by directing the mind to the way of life you wish to follow, you hold the commanding position of your life. • By practicing meditation, you can develop your mental faculty thereby you can be more in control and manage yourself when you are irritated, angry or confronted by a negative situation. You can resolve your problems by analyzing them calmly and demonstrate problem solving behavior which will be more organized and acceptable. • Meditation greatly helps in relaxing your body. After sitting still for fifteen to twenty minutes during meditation I feel quite fresh and relaxed physically. • Your chosen words that help you in meditation, whether it is name of your God or any other chosen name reflecting harmony in general, when repeated silently with love and reverence during meditation acts like a prayer from the heart. It has a calming effect on our mind. In my personal case, I focus on the picture of Baba Ji and I mentally transcend myself into the memory of my days spent with him. Time just flies by and I have to force myself to come out of the blissful experience. • I have been practicing meditation for quite sometime. Initially, I started under the guidance of my Guru Ji. As a practicing physician, I can say that focusing your mind on one name and repeating it with reverence for some time, say fifteen to twenty minutes daily leads to changes in the body that are restorative in nature. These changes which include reduction in heart rate, reduction in blood pressure, reduction in breathing rate, decrease in oxygen consumption, increase in blood flow and reduced muscle tension quickens healing effects
